Sophomore vs. Timpview
Provo 21, Timpview 35
Commentary:
The boys played one heck of a game. Just as we thought, they're making progress every week. At half time Provo was down 2 touchdowns at 21-7. In the second half they brought it back even, 21-21. Though they fought well, a couple of errors gave Timpview the ball again and they were able to score twice more.
All in all it was a good game, and we look for continued improved performance next week!

Varsity vs. Pleasant Grove
Provo 14, Pleasant Grove 10
Commentary:
Oh boy did Taylor have a great game. Warner was hurt near the end of the half, and the Provo offense really struggled to pull it together until Tay went in as quarterback with about 4 minutes left in the game.
The papers, fans, players, and coaches all essentially attribute the turnaround and the win to Taylor. Needless to say, the performance from all the team was stellar. There were a few gotchas which were costly, but overall, everyone did a great job.
We're really pleased with Tay and his ability. We've known all along that he could make just those kinds of plays, we've seen him do it in the QB spot for years. He was referred to by the paper as the 3rd string QB, which is technically true right now given that Quynn Haws has been playing in the JV role this season, and that Tay hadn't taken any reps for several weeks, but he's always been told to be prepared to back up Warner, and I think Coach looks at him more as 2nd string. The coach did tell him to be ready to practice at QB this week and to plan on starting against Timpview. We're all hoping that Warner will be back in top form, but if not, then we have faith in Taylor making it happen.
Check out the links at right for the stories from the paper. Note that the Herald's major prep sports headline was "King for the Day!"
Oh and one other thing - During the BYU game on Saturday, Taylor was mentioned by name by the Tulsa coach (a former bulldog) as having been the miracle worker behind the win. How cool is that folks? Very cool!
A final apology if I seem too proud right now, but I am, I am.

Sophomore vs. Pleasant Grove
Provo 0, Pleasant Grove 20
Commentary:
Sean played really well in this game and had some great tackles. Unfortunately, we couldn't stop some of the P.G. J.V. players who played down on their team (who replaced the purportedly 18 sophomore team members who were suspended from the game), especially their fullback.
I still think we have tons of talent, and that the game could have been quite a bit different if both teams had played only their sophomore team members, and if we'd had some tighter play which would have prevented some key errors.

8th Grade vs. Lone Peak (2)
Provo 0, Lone Peak(2) 49
Commentary:
Carter played well, but the team was still not quite clicking the way they could. We did see improvement from last week to this, and we are seeing more follow through and better closure on tackles etc. Defense is looking better, but offense still needs a bit of work, particularly with blocking on the line. We have faith that these guys will really start to click soon and start making some great strides.

Varsity vs. Cottonwood
Provo 43, Cottonwood 30
7:00 pm. 2nd regular season game, played at home
Commentary:
It was all Provo until the very end of the 1st half when we got quite a scare. Cottonwood scores 3 touchdowns in the last 1:43 of the first half - mostly from Provo mistakes, and we close the half Cottonwood 23, Provo 20
In the second half Provo almost immediately scores again, and the bulldogs are clearly fired up and not dead yet.
We saw incredible performances from Warner Jarman and Austin Alder which were made possible by the awesome play of the O-Line. Tay saw some action carrying the ball, and did well, but he truely shone on defense.
Defensively Taylor had a great game, but Cottonwood didn't go to his side much (could it be that they watched some tape from the Timpanogos game?) but he was very effective when they did come his way. Lot's of pressure on the QB, several tips and some great tackles rounded out his game, and the rest of the defense also was great, Laws, Larsen, the Trammells, Pope and the rest were in top form.
Stats:
Jarman rushed for 171 yards on 15 attempts, scoring three touchdowns, while Alder ran for 116 yards on 17 attempts, scoring two touchdowns, including an 85-yard kickoff return.
The Bulldogs finished with 331 yards of total offense, all on the ground. Provo was 0-1 passing.
